The Commercial Property Improvement Program (CPIP) is an incentive program designed to improve the facades of publicly or privately owned commercial or industrial buildings along specific commercial corridors. This program is based on the premise that exterior improvements to commercial buildings in highly visible locations will stimulate private investment, attract customers, and result in new economic opportunities. Grant funding is available to commercial and industrial property owners that intend to restore, renovate or improve their property. CPIP Public Information Session
CPIP was established in 2017 to improve the facades of non-residential buildings located within the designated Low and Moderate Income (LMI) areas and includes the following commercial and industrial corridors:
- Johnson Street from 72nd Avenue to 55th Avenue
- Hollywood Boulevard from 72nd Avenue to 22nd Avenue
- US 441 north of Atlanta Street to Pembroke Road
- Dixie Highway/N 21st Avenue from Sheridan Street to Pembroke Road
- Federal Highway/US1 from Sheridan Street to Pembroke Road
The program consists of a reimbursement grant for a percentage of the construction costs up to a maximum amount of $25,000 per property/property owner on a post-completion basis. Funding is available from two sources: $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds awarded to the City of Hollywood by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and $200,000 in General Capital Outlay Funding allocated by the City Commission for FY2019-2020, for a total of $400,000 in program funding. CPIP funds are limited to one time per property address per federal fiscal year and are available on a first-come, first-served basis until program funds are expended.
Since its inception, seven properties within Districts 1, 2, 3 and 6, have been improved with CPIP funds. Actively moving through the CPIP process are two properties in District 2 and four properties in District 4. As the program continues to expand, additional corridors such as Pembroke Road and additional eligible improvements, will be considered for inclusion. To optimize the program, online forms will be introduced along with added program marketing and outreach. The outreach will include two virtual meetings this summer, which will provide program guidelines and an opportunity to ask questions.
